Family DentistryAt Parkway Dentistry at Langtree, we offer services to fit the entire family and prevent dental health issues down the line. We pride ourselves in working to maintain an atmosphere that is right for every age. Family dentistry is focused on creating relationships to enhance dental care, providing oral health education, and building a groundwork of preventive steps to help you have better oral health. We have dental services, to protect, restore and enhance your oral health. Dental CleaningMost patients understand that a dental cleaning includes the removal of plaque. What they may not understand is that it is also an opportunity to provide our patients with the tips and guidance that can increase their oral hygiene routine at home. In addition, we check the status of your gum tissue, ensure its health, and look for areas of concern and seek ways to help. Learning about the importance of oral hygiene and the necessary steps to have oral health, can help you keep your teeth for life. Dental ExamOften following your dental cleaning is a dental exam. We use this time to seek and catch minor problems before they develop into major complications. If we do diagnose areas of disease or decay, we may perform restorative treatment at that time, or schedule treatment for a future date. Included in your exam is an oral cancer screening, and time to answer any oral health related questions. Oral Cancer ScreeningWe perform an oral cancer screening during your routine dental exam. It is a visual exam, conducted with simply a probe in hand and it is painless. We are looking for tissue that is unusual, including unusual coloring, textures, the development of bumps, lumps or growths, or any sores that are not healing as they should. Finding any of these tissue changes does not mean that the patient has cancer, but we may ask questions, want to take a closer look or biopsy. An oral cancer screening is a great opportunity for you to ask questions about steps you can take to reduce your risk factors. Dentistry For KidsYour child’s oral health is important. Their tooth development and health begins in utero, and continues for the rest of their lives. We can provide you the tips and education to help your child be successful. Schedule your child's first appointment when their first teeth erupt, or before their first birthday, and continue to see us frequently. Scheduling regular appointments allows us to monitor the development of their oral health. As your child grows, we can establish a strong foundation for their oral health, one that will ensure a lifetime of healthy, beautiful teeth. We can include preventive steps such as applying dental sealants, fluoride treatments, and make recommendations for early orthodontia. Periodontal CarePeriodontal care is the care of your gum tissue. Your gums support your teeth, we want to keep them healthy. Gum disease is a common disorder that can cause a lot of damage. Patients who suffer from chronic gum disease can experience regression in their gum tissues, damage to the connective ligaments, and eventually the loss of alveolar bone. Whether we spot gingivitis, periodontitis or chronic periodontitis, taking the steps to remove bacteria and keep your gums healthy is important to your oral health. Periodontal MaintenanceWe typically perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to look for potential symptoms. This may include the use of advanced diagnostic tools such as digital x-rays or an intraoral scanner. We usually measure the depths of your periodontal pockets as well. These grooves between your teeth and gums become deeper as the disease progresses. TMJTMJ refers to the jaw joint, also known as the temporomandibular joint. Patients can experience dental issues that cause disruption and irritation in the joint. They may experience problems opening or closing their jaw fully, they can also experience clicking or popping sensations, facial pain, or even migraines. Sometimes patients aren’t aware that their symptoms stem from their jaw joint. We can review the joint and look for TMD or temporomandibular joint disorders. There are treatments designed to alleviate any pain or discomfort associated with the TMJ. MouthguardMouthguards can be customized to protect your teeth. This is ideal for patients who participate in recreational sports, outdoor activities, and patients who suffer from a disorder known as bruxism which is the grinding or gnashing of teeth. Mouthguards, sometimes called a sports guard or night guard, provide a layer of protection to your teeth to reduce or prevent damage to your teeth. Simply wearing an acrylic device can save you pain, expense and time in the chair. Having your mouthguard customized to fit means you are much more likely to wear it, because it was made to fit your mouth.
